MARKETRACK

Marketrack is a multifunctional 6-story parking garage located in Downtown Chattanooga on the corner of Riverfront Parkway and Power Alley that once served as a large surface lot in a high-density area. The stigma behind parking garages is their lack of function and aesthetic qualities, but adding one to the riverfront didn’t have to be a sight for sore eyes. This multiuse parking garage was built around stair towers utilizing columns and beams for support. The top floor holds most of the program, with each floor containing a business necessary or unique to Chattanooga. CVS will draw people in being located on the ground floor of the tower, and the hair salon on the second will bring reoccurring customers. The third floor will be a Milk n Honey to bring in families, and the pottery place on the fourth, All Fired Up, for gatherings and entertainment. In order to make people flow through the vertical circulation, the fifth floor will be a Chattanooga Whiskey restaurant and rooftop bar because it is unique to Chattanooga and will provide views overlooking downtown. The daily use of the top floor of the parking garage is a running track, but the seasonal uses to go along with it are the extension to the Lookouts field in center field. The Chattanooga market will also be moved and will take place on the roof on Sundays. The addition of this parking garage not only taught me how structure works, but also how to make the undesired, desirable.
